Traditional Water Softener Systems

  • Facebook

Ohio License #27744

Water is softened or conditioned by replacing hard ions like magnesium and calcium with softer sodium or potassium ions. All water softeners use the same operating principle: They trade the minerals for something else, in most cases sodium. The process is called ion exchange.

With the Water Softener with Automatic Backwash your family will have healthier skin and hair. Reduced hard water build-up also results to cleaner dishes, easier to clean tubs, showers and sinks; softer, cleaner and longer lasting clothes. The "Automatic Backwash" feature regenerates the water softeners regularly, renewing their ability to remove hardness from water. This unit has a time-initiated regeneration via an electronic controller, Fleck control valve, that can be set up when softening capacity is predicted to run out. Based on your hardness and water usage, this can be every 3-5 days or even every 1-2 weeks. Regeneration takes 30 minutes and will run water backwards through the system down the drain.

This system can also be used in commercial applications, such as Car Washes, Manufacturing and Window Cleaning where water is hard and there's a need to eliminate white spots and streaks.

Other less common contaminants can also be reduced by this system, such as Radium, Barum, Lead and Strontium ions.

If your water leaves behind red or pink stains in the bathtub or smells like sulfur

Well water systems often need an iron filtration system along with a softener system. In cases where the iron level is less than 3 parts per million an all in one softener and iron filter can get the job done. In most cases if you see staining left behind the iron level is too high for a combination unit. It's very important to use an iron filter if iron is present because a softener is unable to clean its media and will soon stop working. Iron is very sticky and iron filters use sand as media. When the sand is agitated during the backwash cycle the sticky iron is easily removed.

Iron is clear when it is suspended in the water. Only when it is exposed to air will it oxidize turning red or pink making it able to be filtered out of the water . Without an iron filter this happens in your washing machine, toilets, bathtubs, sinks etc. An air injection iron filter simply injects air into the water. It sits in the filter for a few moments causing it to oxide. Then the water runs through a bed of sand where the oxidized iron sticks to the sand. Coming out free of iron before going into the softener to have the dissolved solids removed like calcium and magnesium. Modern iron filters use air injection doing away with the sometimes dangerous chemicals older systems once used. It is just air and sand but it makes all the difference in the world if you have iron in your water.
